GRASSROOTS WRITING CAMPAIGN RUNNING STRONG

National_medal_of_Arts.JPGNational Medal of Arts nominee Viktor Schreckengost should have the attention of the White House this week. Indications are that the President’s website has been inundated with letters of support asking that Viktor be a 2006 recipient of the lifetime achievement award. Like many past recipients, Schreckengost has been nominated a number of times, but has yet to be chosen.

As of today, the White House has yet to make any kind of announcement as to who might get President George W. Bush’s nod for this prestigious honor. Announcements of the President’s choices usually come in late October.

SCHRECKGOST HONORED AT LA POTTERY SHOW

Viktor Schreckengost was honored by the prestigious LA POTTERY SHOW with its “Living Legend” award. The show, known for attracting top dealers in vintage pottery, showcased Schreckengost and the Centennial Jazz Series, in its fall exhibition earlier this month. In addition to the show, The Centennial Jazz Bowl was featured at the LA Art Deco Society’s “Cocktails in Historic Places” at the Biltmore Hotel.

CENTENNIAL JAZZ SERIES GATHERING ATTENTION

The Centennial Jazz series is gathering rave reviews from attendees at a number of art/pottery shows around the country.  The centerpiece for the LA POTTERY SHOW, the bowl was featured in a special lecture, “The Jazz Series, Now and Then,” presented by Heather McClellan, the artist who worked with Viktor to create the series and oversaw the Centennial Jazz Series project. The bowls and plates were also featured this past weekend at ATLANTIQUE show. Look for the series in future shows across the country. Upcoming shows where the series can be purchased include The Pier Show in New York City, Nov. 25 - 26, and Miami Modernism Show Jan. 12-14, 2007.
