Full-time strategist joins Schreckengost team
Former McKinsey & Co., American Express management consultant now works for the Schreckengost legacy
We are excited to announce that a full-time strategist has joined the Schreckengost team. We welcome Richard D. McClellan, a former management consultant for McKinsey & Co. and American Express Financial Advisers.
Rich will initially lead strategic, budget and licensing planning for both the foundation and intellectual property organizations. His future responsibilities will evolve from these planning sessions. "He’s our resident MBA," quips Chip Nowacek, describing Rich as a management and financial resource whose experience consulting for large corporations will help shape the direction and structure of the foundation and related enterprises. "His combined perspective on the arts and business is most important. It’s hard to find someone with experience in arts marketing. Business people often don’t know what to do with the arts and arts people often don’t understand business." As the Schreckengost organizations grow, Rich’s expertise will be especially useful in orchestrating formal relationships between nonprofit and for-profit components.
Rich looks forward to his new responsibilities. "It’s been a desire of mine to get involved with nonprofit work ever since going to business school, so this is an aspiration fulfilled. I’ve been watching the Viktor Schreckengost Foundation and related enterprises develop with a great deal of interest for the past two years. My experiences at McKinsey and American Express have prepared me for this kind of opportunity because my role here is really about shaping ambiguity into something more defined."
Education and even his personal life have prepared Richard for his new position. He has an MBA from Case Western Reserve University, with an emphasis in marketing and strategy, and a liberal arts undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University, with a generous helping of humanities classes. In addition, Rich is married to a professional freelance artist and has been very involved in shaping her business.
When asked what excites him about promoting the Schreckengost legacy, Rich concludes, "I’m very passionate about Viktor. He’s an amazing guy. Here’s somebody who by all rights should be a household name and I have the chance to help make that happen."
